Weifang State-level Hi-tech Industry Development Zone, also known as State-level Pioneering Service Center, was approved by the State Council in 1992. It is one of the 5 most innovative, harmonious and charming state-level hi-tech zones established by National Science and Technology Ministry. It has been successfully honored as Shandong Electronic Acoustic Device Industry Zone, Shandong Photoelectron Industry Zone, Shandong Software Industry Zone, Shandong Biomedical Industry Zone, Shandong Chinese Traditional Medicine Modernization Science-and-technology Enterprise Incubator, Shandong Information Service Industry Base and Shandong Information Service Industry Key Accumulation Zone.

Weifang North Coastal Economic and Technological Development Area was formally approved as state-level economic and technological development area by the State Council in April 2010. It is the largest production and export base of ecological marine chemical in China. It has been awarded successfully “State Innovative Base of Revitalizing Trade through Science and Technology”, “State Demonstration Zone of Revitalizing Sea through Science and Technology”, “State Ecological Industry Demonstration Zone”, “Shandong Science and Technology Development Zone and Circular Economy Demonstration Zone”. Now Weifang is concentrating on building the north coastal area into a modern new city.

Weifang Export Processing Zone was approved by the State Council in Dec.2003. It carries out “special economic zone, special policies” and has qualified for four functions including bonded processing, bonded logistics, goods trade and service trade. It is the highest level special economic area with most favorable policies and comprehensive functions among all the areas opening to the outside world in China.

Xiashan Eco-economic Development Area is one of the 5 development block of Weifang city center. Xiashan Reservoir, located in Xiashan Eco-economic Development Area, is the largest one in Shandong province by covering an area of 144 sq. km with storage volume 1.405 billion cubic meters of water and regulating storage volume 560 million cubic meter of water. Xiashan Eco-economic Development Area is an ideal place for tourism and ecological development.
