Benefiting from the Taiyi Range to the south, Changwei Plain in the middle and Laizhou Bay of Bohai Sea to the north, Weifang enjoys unique advantages in development. Weifang North Coastal Area is rich in land and mineral resources. Covering an area of 2600 sq. km for development with a coastline of 140 km, Weifang North Coastal Area has become an important area undertaking the transfer of industry and technology from home and abroad. In April 2009, General Secretary Hu Jintao made a strategic deployment to build the ShandongPeninsula Marine Economic Area during his visit in Shandong province. The development of Huanghe River Delta has been escalated a national strategy. In the new round of development plan, Weifang is the key development area in Huanghe River Delta High-efficient Ecologic and Economic Zone and one of the front cities in Shandong Peninsula Marine Economic Zone and Jiaodong Peninsula High-end Industry Accumulation Area.
