Analysis and Interpretation of the Economic Performance of Weifang City, Shandong Province, China in 2024

\According to the unified accounting results of municipal gross domestic product (GDP), the annual GDP of Weifang City in 2024 reached 820.32 billion yuan, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 5.9% at constant prices. By sector: the added value of the primary industry amounted to 70.08 billion yuan, up 4.1% year-on-year; the secondary industry achieved an added value of 347.43 billion yuan, rising 6.3%; and the tertiary industry recorded an added value of 402.81 billion yuan, growing 5.8%.

I. Industrial Sector

The added value of industrial enterprises above designated size in the city increased by 8.5% year-on-year. The operating revenue of these enterprises totaled 1,220.37 billion yuan, up 1.0%, while total profits reached 44.27 billion yuan, down 8.3%.

II. Investment

 

Fixed asset investment in the city grew by 4.1% year-on-year. By sector: investment in the primary industry rose 7.2%, secondary industry investment increased 18.7%, and tertiary industry investment declined 10.5%. Real estate development investment totaled 43.64 billion yuan, down 28.1%. The newly commenced construction area of buildings was 3.242 million square meters, a decrease of 34.1%, of which residential new construction area amounted to 2.525 million square meters, down 34.5%.

III. Domestic and Foreign Trade

Total retail sales of consumer goods reached 313.16 billion yuan, up 6.7%.

By category:

 

  • Retail sales of above-quota units amounted to 102.37 billion yuan, up 12.8%;
  • Retail sales of below-quota units totaled 210.78 billion yuan, up 2.4%.

 

By consumption type:

 

  • Catering revenue reached 22.36 billion yuan, up 15.5%;
  • Retail sales of goods amounted to 290.80 billion yuan, up 6.0%.

 

Total import and export volume reached 358.27 billion yuan, up 5.2%. Exports totaled 244.97 billion yuan, up 6.4%, while imports stood at 113.30 billion yuan, up 2.7%.

IV. Fiscal and Tax Revenue

The city's general public budget revenue was 61.96 billion yuan, up 1.8%, of which tax revenue amounted to 37.75 billion yuan, down 4.2%. General public budget expenditures reached 90.20 billion yuan, up 1.4%, with education expenditures and social security/employment expenditures totaling 21.72 billion yuan (up 0.3%) and 18.25 billion yuan (up 14.3%), respectively.

Total tax revenue (taxation caliber, including customs levy) was 97.71 billion yuan, down 2.1%. Tax revenue from the secondary industry totaled 68.56 billion yuan (down 3.5%), while that from the tertiary industry reached 28.98 billion yuan (up 1.1%).

V. Finance

By the end of December, the total deposits in local and foreign currencies of financial institutions stood at 1,502.26 billion yuan, an increase of 146.98 billion yuan (up 10.8%) compared to the beginning of the year. Household deposits reached 1,009.66 billion yuan, up 101.85 billion yuan (up 11.2%). Total loans in local and foreign currencies amounted to 1,185.02 billion yuan, an increase of 91.41 billion yuan (up 8.4%).

VI. Consumer Prices

In December, the city's Consumer Price Index (CPI) decreased by 0.2% year-on-year. Among the eight major categories:

Three categories rose: clothing (+1.1%), education/culture/entertainment (+2.6%), and other goods/services (+7.0%);

Five categories declined: food/tobacco/alcohol (-0.6%), housing (-1.1%), household goods/services (-1.4%), transportation/communication (-1.7%), and healthcare (-0.2%).

For the full year, the CPI decreased by 0.3%, consistent with the January-November period.

VII. Household Income and Expenditure

The city's per capita disposable income reached 43,760 yuan, up 5.6%. Urban residents' per capita disposable income was 53,725 yuan (up 5.0%), while rural residents' income stood at 29,212 yuan (up 6.4%).

Per capita consumption expenditure was 25,817 yuan, up 5.6%. Urban residents' per capita expenditure reached 30,758 yuan (up 4.6%), and rural residents' expenditure was 18,604 yuan (up 7.3%).

 

Note: In accordance with China's national economic accounting system and the results of the Fifth National Economic Census, the 2023 GDP of Weifang City has been revised to 778.3 billion yuan.
